|
|
Great news everyone! The NSAA now has a page for members to post tunes!
Here is the address:
http://www.nordenfolk.org/forum/phpBB2/NSAA_Tunes/index.html
There is a submission form for members to upload tunes as well as a gallery (under construction) where we can share photos. Send some photos to me and I'll add 'em on the next update! But more importantly, upload some tunes!
The page will be updated on a monthly basis with new material that has been submitted.
There are still a few bugs to be woked out, but that will come with time.
What are you waiting for? Get busy recording some tunes! _________________ Aaron

This topic will contain a log of updates to our website.
Every month, I will list new additions to the tune page and gallery, sorted alphabetically by the name of the member who contributed them.
This is only an update log, please do not respond to this post. _________________ Aaron |

Here’s what’s new on the tunes page as of Jan 29, 2007:
I made a few structural adjustments to the site, so some of the file naming has changed. You can now access the site here:
http://www.nordenfolk.org/forum/phpBB2/NSAA_Tunes/index.html
The old link is no longer valid.
Netscape and MS Explorer users will notice that the background pattern remains fixed while scrolling (I finally learned how to handle that one).
A recording of a Polska efter Carl Magnusson, played by Bo Favre on a set of his pipes made of cherry (they sound great Bo!)
Anders’ midi and notes for a Visa efter Nedgårds Lars från Leksand
Jan’s notes for a Norwegian March
A gallery containing some photos of people’s pipes
I contributed another tune - Långdans från Sollerön (.mp3 this time), and swapped the old Brudmarsch från Äppelbo.wma file with an .mp3 of the same recording.
Note: the “piping since” field on some of the new contributions is still blank. That’s a tiny adjustment so please let me know when you started playing, and I’ll update that information right away. _________________ Aaron

I don't mind if you move my midi/notes to your site.

The updates for the tune page have been sent in. It looks like they haven't made it to the server yet, but they will soon.
This month we have:
Several new photos of Bo playing on a beach in Vancouver, as well as one photo of a bagpipe made by him in rosewood and maple. All of these photos are fantastic.
A new midi from Anders: Slängpolska från Verkebäck (Anders, I haven't moved the files to our site yet, I'm just linking to the files directly now, let me know If it would work better for you we copied the files to our site and I'll do that).
I contributed a little tune from England called "The Horn Dance". It is associated with a rural custom involving a procession of men bearing reindeer antlers. It is first mentioned in written sources as taking place during August, 1226 (though I don't know if the tune is that old). It now takes place on the 11th of September every year in Abbots Bromley.
See you next month! _________________ Aaron |

A small tip for all of you who do recordings and put up in MP3-format.
Could you please add tune name and artist to MP3 meta information. Then I will have much easier to see/find who is playing and which tune is recorded.
I guess others also will benefit from that to
Anyway, I had a disk crash two weeks ago, but the server is up and running again, without any serious work lost (only my CD album collection I riped, which I have to do again ) _________________ No MSN or ICQ. Only Jabber at <xmpp:anders.jackson@gmail.com>

Well, It's been quite a while since the last update to the tune page.
I recorded two new tunes lately and uploaded them.
Pete Coleman, a new member on the forum, sent a very nice picture of his pipes, made from Yew the photo has been added to our gallery.
Jerry and I noticed a small glitch in the upload portal, I'm sure it will be ironed out soon, but in the meantime if you have tunes that you would like to submit, send me an email and I'll see that they get posted. _________________ Aaron |

Wow Aaron!
I don't think I've ever heard a more beautiful interpretation of Brudmarsch efter Nedergårds Lars! I love your fast trills! _________________ Info on Swedish bagpipes at http://olle.gallmo.se/sackpipa

I have to agree with Olle. Really good.
I saw that you didn't downloaded my contributions. That is a pitty, as I has some trouble with the server and no time to fix it.
Any way, you absolutly must come here to sweden this summer. Just ask us when and take the jump with two bags (your pipes and a sleeping bag), and we will fix your travel plans and a roof over your head _________________ No MSN or ICQ. Only Jabber at <xmpp:anders.jackson@gmail.com>

Anders,
When did you upload your contributions?
I was unaware that there was anything new. We have been having some server problems lately so it's possible that it got hung up there. If you want you can send them to me by email (send me a PM and I'll give you my address).
Sorry about that.
Wow, thanks for the invitation. I'll certainly keep an eye on travel rates this summer and see what I can do. The only thing keeping me from going at this point is the cost of travel. Let's hope I can do it this summer - when I checked about it earlier this summer it was well over $1,000. _________________ Aaron |

I didn't. But I (miss)understod your comments earlier that you downloaded them to the site, as I thought I gave permission to do that
I still have it on disks, just not on a server that is running. I should get it running, I really should. _________________ No MSN or ICQ. Only Jabber at <xmpp:anders.jackson@gmail.com>

Oh I see what you mean now. I didn't know that those links were broken. When I added them to the page, I just linked directly to you thinking that it would keep the server-size of the webpage smaller.
If you send those to me again I'll upload them to our site and they'll be back in working order.
Sorry about the confusion there. _________________ Aaron |

Well, now the server is up again
So please have a look at same server but end the URL with Noter/ and not any documents, and you will see a new tune. _________________ No MSN or ICQ. Only Jabber at <xmpp:anders.jackson@gmail.com>
