Olle,

You probably know about this one, for all I know, it is your work. There is a link with a British flag on it that leads to the version of your page in English, and the Swdish flag icon leads to your page in Swedish. Anyway, I thought I'd share it.

I can't read a word of Russian, and do not know the Cyrillic alphabet, so I can't even pronounce the words, but that being said, there is a Russian Sackpipa page. Here's the link:

http://www.sackpipa.ru/

Perhaps you can tell us more about the site.

Eoghan

I also link to it from my site (there is a Russian flag at the top).

The owner of the Russian site, Petr P. Nikolaev, wrote to me last April and asked for permission to translate my site. I agreed, of course. I don't read Russian, though, so I don't know if the translation is a good one or not. Certainly ambitious though.

I think an older version of my site has been translated to Italian as well, but without permission (nor any pointers to the source). As far as I could tell when I looked at it last, it was not a very good translation either.

My site was first written in English (in 1996, I think). It was translated to Swedish on request from the the Swedish national agency for education in 1998 or 1999.

Indeed, and even more as the site now sports it's own forum and guestbook. My Russian is a little rusty, but as Olle writes, Pjotr states the origin of his translation and so forth, no problems there. I haven't studied the Russian text in detail though.
The forum seems not to be only about the säckpipa, but those entries that are, seem to deal a lot with if one should translate German-Swedish bagpipe maker Alban Faust's web pages into russian (and if you should ask his permission to do so), other entries are translated parts of Alban's pages in answers to other questions about his site. There is also a nice entry about a visit to Alban Faus's workshop.
Anyhow, never thought that I would see the word säckpipa in cyrillic, here it is:

(had to make a pic of this word, russian letters don't survive cyberspace)

Ho ho ho Very Happy

P.Nikolaev is a good friend of mine, and we made this translation togather (and with professional translater).
And now we translate another materials about sackpipa to put them in the net (ooh my english..). You know, there is not so mutch information about bagpipes in RUnet, especially about swedish...

Basicly, sackpipa.ru is a copy of Olle's site, but with russian guestbook.
Tha translation is at professional level, do not be afraid.
But we a going to make it bigger e.t.c...

Also we have a project bagpipes.ru, community of russian pipers (not so many people and pipes, but the number grows)

p.s. last summer I bought a sackpipa made ba Alban (D chanter, 3 drones, bellow). I (with the OrigiN-ensemble) play traditional swedish (and noy only swedish) music in Russia.

p.p.s. Liraman, Pavel Stepanov says hallo to you. Do you remember him? I saw his pipes on your site...

Antonyj!
Koniesjna, ne zabyl!, of course I remember him! I have bought two bagpipes, two zjaleikas and a wooden trumpet from him during the years. I'm delighted he rememebers me. I wrote him a mail when I redesigned my web site and put the link to his website and some photos, but I never got an answer. Maybe you could ask him if my presentation of him is OK.

For all the rest of you: I can really recomend a visit to Pavels even if you don't understand a word of russian.
