Alban uses reindeer horn, yes.

The others don't have a separate end-piece and, as far as I know, they oil with linseed oil/turpentine all the way. I don't think it's a health problem.

The bamboo reed I saw was not composite. It was cut the traditional way. I seem to remember that it was downcut, but I'm not sure.
